Being Called to The Boardroom
Leadership isn't about a fancy title or importance. It's about stewardship. It's about stepping into a space and deciding to steward well what God has entrusted us with. That's what The Steward's Boardroom is all about. God has called us to this position and expects us to do well with it.
Everyone wants to be a leader these days, so it seems. But true leadership, real leadership, isn't just a title you throw into your email signature or on your LinkedIn page. Real leadership comes at a cost.
As a leader in the realm of business, we have a weight to carry that the ones we are leading may never understand. The decisions fall squarely on our shoulders. The people look to us for direction. The board looks to us for explanation. The P&L results are ours to account for. Shareholders trust us with results. Stakeholders trust us to deliver. We prioritize. We bring clarity. We hold accountable. We bear the weight.
I see it as a calling. Everyone is a leader in some capacity, and I'm not counting that out. Moms and Dads are leaders. Teachers are leaders. Janitors are leaders. Kids are leaders. The calling of business leadership bears a difference, in my opinion. It's not better or worse, but distinctively different.
Our leadership directly affects many people. It's someone's job and livelihood to do work under our leadership. It's so important to never lose sight of that. We can inadvertently affect someone's mental health and sometimes their physical health. That's serious and lasting.
It also directly affects those over us. Someone started this company. They poured themselves, their resources, and their creativity into the place we are honored to reside. Our customers, sometimes unknowingly, rely on us to make decisions to support what solution our company delivers for them.
It's a calling because not everyone can do what we do and succeed. We aren't necessarily special, but we are set apart.
Leadership isn't about a fancy title or importance. It's about stewardship. It's about stepping into a space and deciding to steward well what God has entrusted us with. That's what The Steward's Boardroom is all about. God has called us to this position and expects us to do well with it.
At the end of the day, God is our Chairman of the Board. He's the one we ultimately answer to for our leadership and how well we steward this position.
Thank you for accepting the heavy call of a business leader. Join me here in The Steward's Boardroom as we explore what Steward Leadership can look like and how we honor our Father, The Chairman of the Board, with it.
Welcome,
Emily
